Job overview
The post holder will be a very experienced Sonographer with significant NHS service, able to work autonomously within the ultrasound department, accountable for their own professional actions. The post holder will assess and manage ultrasound requests, giving advice and reports to patients and clinicians at the time of examination. There is a high level of commitment to the training of student Sonographers and proven experience in this area is essential.
The post holder will ensure the provision of the highest standards of patient care and contribute to the management of the Department. This person will be working closely within a multidisciplinary team.
There is an expectation that the successful candidate is experienced in abdominal scanning, gynaecology (transabdominal and transvaginal scanning), small parts and MSK scanning.
Expected to work across all Bromley sites (PRUH, Orpington Hospital, and Beckenham Beacon Hospital).
Main duties of the job
* To provide timely, efficient and courteous provision of ultrasound services to the agreed standards in the general ultrasound department.
* To take responsibility for own case load and report independently on the images at the time of the examination and to discuss results, giving reassurance when appropriate to patients.
* To be accountable for own professional actions and work within codes of Practice and professional guidelines.
* To communicate complex information relating to conditions and procedures to staff, patients and carers, and ensure informed consent for examinations.

Person specification
* Health Professions Council (HCPC)
* BSc Radiography (or equivalent)
* PgDip/MSc in medical ultrasound (equivalent post graduate qualification).
* Knowledge of data analysis, statistics and research methodologies.
Experience
* Significant NHS experience within Radiology.
* Recent NHS experience at Band 7 or above.
* Proven post graduate experience in general medical scanning including but not limited to; Upper abdominal, pelvic (including transvaginal), small parts (including testes & thyroid).
* Teaching experience with radiographers and members of other professions.
* MSK or Vascular experience.
