Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.
We seek an experienced and enthusiastic teacher to lead the launch of BTEC Applied Science at Peter Symonds. The successful candidate would also be likely to teach A level Biology or Chemistry depending on their specialism.
Previously we have run a successful Applied Human Biology course which this year recruited over 80 students across four classes. Due to curriculum reform this course is being discontinued and we intend to replace it with Applied Science. This will draw on expertise from the Biology and Chemistry teams and the successful candidates will work with teachers from both areas to develop and run the course from September 2025.
Applied Science will be taught in the purpose-built Science Centre along with Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Science. There are around twenty-five teachers working across these three subjects (several of them part-time) as well as six technicians. We also have a thriving Physics department and there may be some opportunity to teach A level Physics If that is your specialism rather than Biology or Chemistry.
The person appointed to this post should be a science graduate and ideally would have teaching and leadership experience on an Applied Science course. However, we would also welcome applications from candidates who have not had the opportunity teach at sixth form level so far in their career.
The successful candidate/s will be highly skilled and enthusiastic, with the ability to deliver excellent, effective subject lessons and will model a friendly, team centred approach whilst being committed to working in pursuit of success for our students and department, and the College itself.
We anticipate this being a fulltime post but there is the possibility that we could be flexible on this. Please indicate in your application whether you are interested in full or part time work.
