Job Title: Waste Enforcement Officer
Salary Range: £37,766 - £44,430
Permanent, Full Time
Location: Wandsworth, London
You will be responsible for investigating incidents of illegal waste dumping (fly-tipping) and littering offences. You will patrol designated areas, gather evidence, issue penalties, and work with local communities to prevent fly-tipping. As an officer, you will collaborate with other enforcement agencies and educate the public on the legal and environmental impacts of fly-tipping and littering.
About the Role:
1. Investigate incidents of littering and fly-tipping, collecting evidence and witness statements.
2. Issue fixed penalty notices (FPNs) and legal notices to individuals or businesses.
3. Prepare evidence and documentation for legal proceedings, ensuring cases are processed according to relevant regulations.
4. Conduct regular patrols in locations vulnerable to fly-tipping and monitor fly-tipping hotspots.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
1. IT Skills: Confident in using computer systems, including essential MS Office software.
2. Customer Care: Ability to deal sensitively with residents, councilors, utility companies, and other statutory bodies in potentially confrontational situations.
3. Social Competence: Assertive with good people skills and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving and conflict resolution.
4. Versatile Communicator: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
5. Knowledge: Good working knowledge of the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978; the Environmental Protection Act 1990; the Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act 1990; the London Local Authorities Act.
