The successful applicant will be one of a larger team of registrars working under an exciting leadership team. There are management development options in the establishment of this new ward structure, working closely with the clinical leadership team.
Our Team Delivers High Quality Care Through Our Acute Medical And Same Day Emergency Care Units (SDEC And AMU). The Team Comprises:
* Foundation Trainees
* Core Medical and GP trainees
* Acute Medicine Registrars
* Advanced Clinical Practitioners
* Physician Associates
* Occupational and Physiotherapists
* A nursing team under the leadership of a matron.
The Royal Surrey Hospital has a 33 bedded Acute Medical Unit. In the latter part of 2024, typically 30-40 patients are admitted to the unit on the medical ‘take’ in a 24 hour period. The area houses a hot laboratory to provide point of care testing with rapid diagnostics facilitating timely decision making. Access to CT scanning is available for acute admissions, including out of hours.
Responsibilities:
This post is for a Trust doctor to work in the Acute Medical Unit at the Royal Surrey Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the following activities within the Trust:
* Supporting foundation and resident medical doctors in the investigation and management of acutely unwell patients.
* Providing senior medical cover to medical patients admitted to Guildford Ward, the Acute Medical Unit and Same Day Emergency Care including patient assessment, investigations and management (including advanced procedures).
* To work under the guidance of the acute medical consultant team ensuring the allocated consultant is regularly briefed and escalated to in the event of patient or operational concerns.
* Quality and service improvement – including the exciting opportunity to develop an Enhanced Care Unit managing acutely unwell, and potential level 2 patients.
* Education and training of foundation and resident medical doctors.
* Service design and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) in the acute medical department.
* Management of Acute emergencies, including peri-arrest and Arrest scenarios.
* Opportunities for specialist clinics and clinical development will be considered – and can be incorporated to the provisional timetable below upon discussion.
