Job overview
Ward 6 is an acute surgical ward with specialties such as colorectal and UGI. With these specialties we have a close relationship with ITU, endoscopy and theatres. These formed relationships have improved patient care and a patient’s surgical journey during their admission. Alongside gaining new found surgical experience, you will have an incredible opportunity to work within the surgical assessment unit and hot clinic, this is offered as a rotation on ward 6 to enhance distinctive assessment skills and experience.
The surgical assessment unit takes referrals from ED or GP for a surgical assessment and a plan of care. This facility has decreased the wait time for patients, which is vital for the patients diagnosis and treatment.
Hot clinic is an outpatient clinic which is held on ward 6. This service has allowed our patients to be safely discharged with the assurance of a follow up and treatment if required.
On ward 6 we offer a training package to support and guide you throughout your new nursing adventure. This training package has been developed by the multi-disciplinary team who have used their experience and skill to identify key training needs required for our ward as a new starter joining our surgical team.
Our ideal candidate would be someone who is dedicated and has the thirst for improvement and the drive to succeed. Surgical experience is desirable but not as essential due to the extensive support and guidance from the surgical nursing team.
Main duties of the job
You will be joining a team of dedicated nursing staff who will provide you with all the support you will need to flourish, develop and encouraged to excel. Working as part of our dedicated multi-disciplinary team we will value you, and your contribution to delivering excellent, safe and compassionate care to our patients within the Acute Surgical Specialty.
You will have a chance to gain experience working with a variety of specialties, and be responsible for the nursing assessment and care of these patients. This will also include the practice of providing pre and post-operative management, to the patients in your care. Your role will involve managing the care of patients undergoing a variety of procedures, involving both local and general Anesthetics. You will also be expected to work closely within the Multidisciplinary team, as we have close working relationships with the endoscopy department, ITU and theatres.
Nurses on ward 6 require a special skill set to manage the acuity of patients who are cared for on the ward. Many undergo complex surgical procedures and are stepped down from ITU. Adequate training will be provided to you to ensure you can deliver high quality, safe nursing care.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
