The Role
Head of English

Your dynamic and creative approach will help encourage and champion today’s young readers, writers and speakers across Years 7 to 13.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic English teacher with a passion for excellence and innovation in teaching.

To be successful you will need to:
1. Be able to teach English Language and English Literature across the whole ability range in KS3, KS4 and KS5.
2. Have skills in communication, collaboration, listening, adaptability, empathy, and patience.
3. Experience of innovation and creativity to engage, enthuse and progress learners.
4. Have the ability to coach and motivate colleagues to achieve individual and collective targets.
5. Think creatively to anticipate and solve problems.
6. Embody the values of ‘Achievement through Caring’.
7. Have high expectations of yourself and be a role model to others.
8. Be determined to play a pivotal part in the English Department.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To support the Headteacher and SLT in meeting whole school priorities and realising the Academy’s shared vision.
2. To take responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning in the subject area.
3. To provide the strategic direction for the subject area to raise standards and secure continuous improvement across the whole department.
4. To provide leadership and management for the delivery of the subject.
5. To ensure the efficient and effective use of staff and resources for the subject area.
6. Support and promote strong positive working relationships, deploying staff appropriately.
