Job overview
The Paediatric Emergency Department at Newham University Hospital sees a wide variety of paediatric medical and surgical presentations with over 40,000 children attending the department each year. The post of Paediatric ED fellow is aimed at doctors with some experience of working in either (or both) Emergency Medicine or Paediatrics and is ideal for those wanting to consolidate their skills, confidence and knowledge of the assessment and management of sick and injured children whilst learning how to manage a busy department. Our Emergency Department team consists of Emergency Medicine consultants and trainees, Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultants, Paediatric trained nurses, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Emergency Department Assistants and Health Care Assistants. There is a Consultant presence in the department 16 hours per day with 24-hour Middle Grade support, and close working with the Paediatric team.
Applicants for Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine should have at least 2 years post-foundation experience in either Paediatrics or Emergency Medicine and hold an advanced paediatric resuscitation certification (i.e., APLS or equivalent).
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake clinical duties as a Registrar in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at NUH including pro-rata out of hours work. They will work in the Paediatric Emergency Department including the Paediatric Resuscitation Area and Paediatric CDU.
Each post will have a named educational and clinical supervisor.
There will be formal educational oversight of the role, with an induction, educational agreement, a personal development plan and regular appraisal.

Qualifications / Training
* Full registration with General Medical Council
* MBBS or equivalent
* BLS
* APLS / EPALS
* PLAB if required
* 24 months experience in either Paediatrics or in Acute specialties (Emergency Medicine / Acute Medicine / ITU / Anaesthetics / Paediatrics) with a minimum of 12 months in Emergency Medicine
* Additional relevant degree (intercalated, masters or doctorate) ALS
* ATLS
* RCPCH or equivalent
* MRCEM or equivalent
* FRCEM or equivalent
* 3 years or more experience in emergency medicine and acute specialties OR paediatrics Experience working at registrar / ST3 level in emergency medicine or paediatrics.
