Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse, Care of the Elderly

To work as a team leader and deputise for the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in line with the nursing framework and in accordance with the nursing philosophy of Ashford and St Peter's NHS Trust.
To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
To promote and help to manage delivery of a quality nursing service, setting and monitoring clinical standards.
We are looking for band 6 Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse to help drive through improvement and service redesign. We are looking for staff to join us who are enthusiastic, hardworking, dedicated and have a passion for delivering the best care to all our patients.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for:
1. Promoting and managing delivery of a quality nursing service, setting and monitoring clinical standards.
2. Assessing patient care needs, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.
3. Working as a Team Leader and Deputising for the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse within the framework of team nursing.
4. Leading responsibility for co-ordinating and facilitating the training and development needs of staff.
5. Leading responsibility for an area of clinical practice appropriate to the ward environment.
Job responsibilities
Clinical
1. Providing safe and high standard nursing care.
2. Implementing hospital policies and relevant legislation.
3. Assisting in establishing and monitoring patient care standards.
4. Determining nursing priorities and planning patient care.
5. Monitoring clerical and legal documents completed by ward staff.
Leadership
1. Ensuring effective organization of the department.
2. Ensuring safe custody and administration of drugs.
3. Maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Education
1. Maintaining a suitable learning environment for staff.
2. Encouraging professional development and attendance at mandatory updates.
Management
1. Contributing to the recruitment and selection process.
2. Conducting regular risk assessments and health and safety audits.
Person Specification
Experience
* Registered Nurse with the NMC
* IV Passport
* Demonstrable post registration experience in a related field
* Experience working in the acute setting delivering direct patient care
* Management/taking charge of area experience
* Excellent understanding of medication and the administration of IV therapies
Qualifications
* 5 GCSE's A-C

* Cannulation and Venepuncture

* ILS
