Clinical / Counselling Psychologist

The post-holder will work as a member of the Urgent Care Service, in Barnet part of the North London Foundation Trust. This post oversees and continuously improves the quality and culture as well as the therapeutic offer available in the acute care services in the inpatient wards. The post carries a specific remit to work with the ward teams to develop a systematic, consistent and effective response to the common issues that arise within acute care settings that can have a powerful impact on the overall effectiveness and quality of experience for people using the service and the staff working in it.
Main duties of the job
* Ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist psychology service within the acute care pathway, including undertaking psychological assessments and evidence-based short-term psychological interventions.
* Provide psychological formulation and consultation to contribute to care plans and management of service users currently being treated on the ward or in CRHTT.
* Work collaboratively as a team member of both the psychological therapies acute care team and the ward MDT, including joint assessments with Consultant Psychiatrists.
* Provide specialist psychological assessment, treatment, and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and non-professional carers.
* Supervise psychological assessment and therapy provided by attached doctoral trainees and other members of the MDT.
* Provide training, supervision, and support to other clinical members of the team.
Person specification
Qualification and Registration
* Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, and two or more distinct psychological therapies.
* Eligibility for Chartered Status with BPS.
* Registered with HCPC as a psychologist.
* Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training, or equivalent.
Skills & Abilities
* Skills in complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention, and management.
* Competency in neuropsychological assessments.
* Well-developed communication skills for conveying complex information.
* Ability to use psychological model-based formulations as part of clinical planning.
* Knowledge of specialized psychological therapies for difficult-to-treat groups.
Experience and Knowledge
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across various care settings.
* Experience of working with diverse client groups across the full range of clinical severity.
* Experience as a fully integrated MDT member.
* Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology and data analysis.
Personal Qualities
* Commitment to the psychological treatment of those in the acute care pathway.
* Ability to maintain professional boundaries and form positive therapeutic relationships.
* Ability to demonstrate Trust Values.
Other requirements
* Ability to teach and train others using complex multi-media materials.
