Summary of Role
The Network Engineer to be part of a small infrastructure team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our IT network to ensure optimal performance, UpToDate security and reliability. We are looking for an individual who will bring ideas, enthusiasm and will integrate with the team, with the primary objective of supporting the existing staff members and enhancing the delivery of security-based updates to the infrastructure. The role will primarily be network focused; however, due to the size of the team, there will be the need to work on both infrastructure and security projects.
Essential:
1. Proficiency in managing and optimizing network infrastructure, including virtual networks, cloud infrastructure and WAN technologies.
2. Experience with managing and supporting backup and disaster recovery solutions.
3. To be able to work closely with security and infrastructure engineers and have an appreciation of their requirements.
4. Extensive knowledge of configuring and managing firewalls, routers, load balancers and switches.
5. The ability to ensure security and operational updates are professionally deployed within business guidelines.
6. Advanced knowledge and understanding of networking, including TCP/IP protocols, subnetting, VLANs, load balancing, VPNs.
7. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
8. Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
9. Expected to work outside of core hours as the role demands.
10. Experience in monitoring network performance and resolving bottlenecks.
11. To work with helpdesk and where appropriate, educate helpdesk staff, whilst resolving tickets pertinent to the network role.
Desirable:
1. Familiarity with Microsoft Azure & AWS cloud services and architectures.
2. Knowledge of Cisco Switches, including configuring, security and firmware updates.
3. Knowledge of FortiNet firewalls.
4. Dell Servers, including iDrac.
5. Knowledge of Veeam and Zerto data resiliency platforms.
6. Knowledge of Rapid7.
7. Analyse, troubleshoot and resolve incidents escalated by 1st /2nd line support.
8. Interact with vendors for support escalations.
9. Understanding of ITIL practices.
10. Ability to automate solutions via scripting.
11. Ability to plan and test Pent test remediations and communicate to the wider business area owners on substantial changes that can affect the network/applications.
12. Ability to update Self Signed/Domain certificates across Network Services/Devices.
