SENDCo Opportunity in Birmingham Secondary School We are delighted to collaborate with a well-respected secondary school in Birmingham in their search for a dedicated and experienced SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). This full-time, permanent position commences in September and presents an exceptional opportunity for a passionate individual to lead and develop the school's provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The Position As the SENDCo, you will be instrumental in ensuring that all students with SEND receive the necessary support and guidance to achieve their full potential. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the school's inclusive ethos, working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies to create a positive and empowering learning environment for all students. Key Responsibilities Strategically lead and manage the school's SEND provision, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practices. Oversee the identification, assessment, and provision of support for students with SEND, including the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). Lead and develop a team of dedicated SEN support staff, providing guidance, training, and mentorship to enhance their skills and knowledge. Foster strong partnerships with parents and carers, ensuring effective communication and collaboration to support student progress. Liaise with external agencies and professionals, including educational psychologists, therapists, and local authorities, to access specialist support and resources. Contribute to the school's wider inclusion agenda, promoting a culture of understanding and acceptance for all students. Qualifications and Experience Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching certification. The National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination or a willingness to undertake this qualification. Proven experience in a SEND leadership role or a strong track record of supporting students with SEND in a mainstream setting. In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, policy, and best practice.
