About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Site Engineer to support the civil engineering works on a 400kV substation project in Southampton. This role involves overseeing site activities, ensuring quality and safety compliance, and assisting in the coordination of subcontractors and site teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Setting Out & Surveying: Perform accurate setting out for earthworks, foundations, drainage, and other civil works.
2. Quality Control: Ensure construction activities adhere to design specifications, client standards, and industry regulations.
3. Technical Support: Provide engineering guidance on site and resolve technical queries with the design team.
4. Site Coordination: Work closely with site managers, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project delivery.
5. Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all works are carried out safely in accordance with National Grid (NG) safety standards and project-specific RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statements).
6. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain site records, prepare progress reports, and assist in compiling as-built drawings.
7. Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with clients, project managers, and other key stakeholders regarding project progress and technical issues.
Requirements:
1. Experience: Proven experience working on civil engineering projects within a substation environment (400kV experience preferred).
2. Qualifications: HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. CSCS card (essential). SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable).
3. Technical Skills: Proficiency in setting out using GPS, total station, and AutoCAD. Strong understanding of National Grid TP137 procedures and HV substation safety requirements. Knowledge of reinforced concrete, drainage, and general civil engineering works.
4. Additional Requirements: EUSR (BESC & Person) or NG Competent Person qualification (highly desirable). Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel as required. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
