Eligibility criteria:
• BSc or MSc Nursing (any specialisation) and Midwifery students who have completedat least one full acute care placement within an NHS trust.
OR
• University Healthcare students (Medicine/ Nursing/ Midwifery/ Physiotherapy/ Paramedicine/ Occupational Therapy etc.) who have had a significant amount of prior experience (6 months+ within the last 12 months) working as a Healthcare Assistant/ Healthcare Support Worker in an NHS acute care Trust.
If you meet the criteria for this role, you will either need to submit a signed recommendation form from NNUH placement/education staff, or complete an interview with the Practice Development and Education team. Further details will be shared once shortlisting has been completed
Please keep in mind this is a HCA role so many skills that you can practice within a student capacity cannot be practiced whilst on shift working as a healthcare assistant.
As a student working as a Healthcare Assistant on the nurse bank at the Norfolk and Norwich University hospital you will have the opportunity to gain experience within a wide range of inpatient and outpatient specialities whilst earning some cash to help with student expenses.
You will need enthusiasm, kindness, compassion, and confidence as you will be expected to work with a diverse set of acutely unwell people who each require an individual holistic approach to meet their day-to-day care needs. Daily responsibilities will include:
• Monitoring and recording of baseline observations for all patients under your daily allocation (blood pressure / temperature / pulse etc.).
• Escalation of issues to relevant registered member of staff (Nurse, doctor etc.) related to acute deterioration of patient’s conditions.
• Provision of care to meet individual holistic requirements of all patients under your daily allocation including personal care, continence assistance and meal time assistance.
• Cleaning of equipment and ward areas as and when required.
• Procurement and handling of clinical samples / swabs.
We will provide uniform and an initial training course to deliver the skills you will need to work in a busy hospital. If you meet the criteria for the shortened induction this will include a four-hour theory session followed by a minimum of two six-hour supervised shifts working on a ward.

Pay scale:
Between £11.45h basic and up to £20.95h during unsocial hours. *
