Job overview
South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology (SYBP) is on a transformational journey that will fully integrate our existing pathology services, providing the best possible service for patients and clinicians across the Integrated Care System. A vacancy has arisen for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Blood Sciences department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, which is hosted by the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Network.
The posts are covering 37.5 hours over a 5-day working week. Applicants must possess an IBMS accredited degree in Biomedical Sciences, have relevant experience in Haematology, and hold current registration with the HCPC (Band 5/Band 6 BMS). Ideally, candidates will have completed the IBMS specialist portfolio (Band 6 BMS) or be close to assessment.
Main duties of the job
* To be accountable for own professional actions and work independently for long periods of time without supervision.
* Work in line with all prescribed Standard Operating Procedures and Policies as directed and be involved in the review process.
* Adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct for Health Care Scientists and will be accountable for your professional actions.
* Ensure that all tests are performed efficiently within the assigned time and in accordance with established protocols to the required standards.

Education and Qualifications
* IBMS accredited BSC in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
* Registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
* Commitment to complete and maintain Mandatory Training and required Laboratory competencies
* Commitment to continuous professional development required to maintain HCPC registration
* Evidence of continued CPD including relevant courses with regards to H&S, leadership, quality or training
* IBMS Specialist Diploma in a relevant specialist subject
Experience
* Experience with a range of laboratory techniques
* Detailed understanding of job content
* Ability to work with other colleagues to improve and develop working practices
* Discipline specific NHS experience in a UKAS accredited laboratory (Microbiology/Virology/Histopathology/Blood sciences)
* Multi-disciplinary awareness
* Experience in demonstrating leadership qualities
Skills and Knowledge
* Keyboard and basic IT skills
* Have an awareness of Health & Safety issues
* Can communicate effectively with staff of all grades
