Main Duties/Responsibilities
As a Consultant Histopathologist with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NFT, you will:
* Provide a diagnostic consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the network and primary care. Histology reporting will be expected to be done digitally once you have been trained and fully validated. Voice recognition training will also be provided as this is the preferred method of report entry.
* Develop close collaborative links with clinicians working in their area of specialist expertise and work to develop services provided to patients in these areas to the highest standards including the adoption of best practice guidance, the development of diagnostic and treatment protocols, and all other relevant guidelines.
* Be encouraged to support reporting of any systemic cytology associated with their sub-specialty area(s) of interest. The post does not have a requirement for cervical screening cytology reporting.
* Interact with the clinicians and allied health professionals to provide pathological support and leadership required for the delivery of excellent services.
* Be involved in the post-mortem service for the coroner, for which appropriate time will be allocated in your job plan (this is only if you choose to do so).
* Be encouraged to take part in research and, where possible, to support the development of digital pathology.
* Participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.
* Supervise trainee pathologists working in the department and assist in their training and appraisal.
* Participate in the appraisals, annual review scheme, mandatory training, and be responsible for ensuring that you comply with the requirements for revalidation by the General Medical Council and continue to hold a licence to practise.
* Be committed to, and involved in, clinical governance, risk management, and clinical audit, including audit of reporting discrepancies. This will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice, participation in departmental, interdepartmental, and national audit programmes as well as supporting and developing good laboratory practice as required for United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS) accreditation.
* Register with and participate satisfactorily in the Royal College of Pathologists Continuing Professional Development programme.
* Take part in National and other EQA schemes as appropriate to their reporting workload.
* Provide a consultation service and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties and primary care.
* Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers, comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures, and take responsibility for improving and complying with infection control practices.
Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications
* Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
* Applicants that are UK trained must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
* Applicants that are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
* FRCPath or equivalent.
* MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent.
