We have an opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist in our Children's Physiotherapy Team, and we would like you to join us if you have the skills! You will join our well-established Children's Physiotherapy service which supports children aged 0-19 years and will work in providing support to the Children's Physiotherapy department and community settings across Sunderland and South Tyneside. You will be a key part of our service and will have the opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills. You will be predominantly based in our Sunderland site providing care across both Sunderland and South Tyneside areas. As a team, we work together to provide the best service we can whilst striving to develop staff who are our key asset to improve patient outcomes. You will have excellent support and be part of a wider Children's Integrated Therapy Service team too. You will be keen to support services as we change and develop. You will align to our vision and values to improve patient outcomes and develop our workforce.
Main duties of the job
You will be based in Sunderland as part of our Children's Physiotherapy team that covers South Tyneside and Sunderland. You will be integral in developing the service to and providing support into the Physiotherapy department, all community settings including special schools. You will be responsible for a wide and varied caseload. You will have knowledge and experience within paediatrics including a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions/presentations to babies and children with complex presentations. You will have knowledge of Paediatric assessment tools and the Bobath approach. You will have some experience of the Education Health and Care Plans (Children and Families Act 2014), have been involved with report writing and associated meetings. You will have experience and a working knowledge of safeguarding. You will have knowledge and understanding of CPIPs and the ability to work both within a Physiotherapy team, MDT and the wider team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a large team across our patch with other specialist clinicians. You will participate in and be integral to the clinical supervision, training and education of all staff, including students. You will be required to meet the travel requirements of this post.

To work as a highly specialist physiotherapist using advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide trust-wide physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and advice to a varied caseload of clients including those who present with musculoskeletal and complex neurological conditions. Practice will incorporate collaborative working with and guiding junior physiotherapy staff.
To begin to develop expert skills in the specific area in order to take a lead role in clinical practice issues raising the profile of the service and offering specialist advice to planning and service development teams in order to assist in the implementation of service improvements.
To offer a pathway for the specialty management of complex paediatric cases by facilitating timely and appropriate intervention.
To work towards improving clinical standards including implementing evidence-based practice.
To maintain professional development through participation in relevant professional training programmes.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Evidence of extensive CPD and up-to-date knowledge within Paediatrics achieved through post-graduate, specialist and advanced short courses.
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.
* Member of APCP or other Paediatric SIG.
Skills and Knowledge
* Demonstrate skills in specialist assessment, diagnosis and development of care plans, where clients have highly complex needs.
* To be able to communicate highly complex and sensitive condition-related information to clients/carers, multidisciplinary team members, other professionals often in the face of hostility and/or antagonism.

* Experience of supervising all levels of qualified Physiotherapy staff, assistants and students.
* Experience in designing and delivering training and education programmes to other professionals/students/parents.
* Training and experience in staff and student supervision.
* Experience in the use of and interpretation of the relevant standardised formal and informal assessments and therapy approaches for client groups within this specialist service areas.
* Some experience of policy/practice development in specialist area.
Training and Knowledge
* Knowledge of some specialist assessment tools relevant to Paediatric Physiotherapy.
* Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic assessments and interventions & an ability to compare & contrast relative benefits.
