We are seeking an experienced nurse to work in the busy Surgical Pre Operative Assessment unit at Southampton General Hospital. You will start off as a band 5 and commence a comprehensive training and development pathway, on completion of competency sign offs you will be promoted to band 6 Nurse Practitioner which can take between 3-6 months. We also run a clinic in Lymington and occasional working across both sites is expected.
Our team is made up of Nurse Practitioners (working across Southampton and Lymington), Health Care Assistants and administrative staff. The clinic opening hours and therefore working days/hours are Monday to Friday between the hours of 07:45-17:45. We are a busy service and currently pre-assess around 10,000 patients per year for multiple surgical specialities.

What you'll do -
- Whilst you undertake your training as a band 5, you will be given a modified practitioner training including History Taking and Physical Examination (please be aware this job does not provide a full ACP masters pathway)
- During that training process you will receive specialist competencies in practice from Anaesthetic teaching Leads.
- Once you are a fully competent band 6 Nurse Practitioner you will perform face to face and telephone assessments of patients who are due to have elective surgery, ensuring they are safe to proceed and optimised prior to surgery.
What we're looking for -
- Significant post registration experience within a surgical setting.
- Experience of writing at level 6 modules and can demonstrate commitment to further learning.
- Experience working within a multi professional team and liaising with multiple departments
- Evidence of IT skills and ability to develop these skills further
