North Hertfordshire College, part of Hart Learning Group operates across three main campuses in Stevenage and Hitchin and includes business operations across Hart Learning and Development (our Employer and Apprenticeship arm). As a college, we have over 650 staff and a turnover of circa £30m.
About the role:
We are seeking someone to assist the Head of Additional Learning Support (ALS) in developing the provision to ensure the highest levels of inclusion, attainment, achievement and attendance for all young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across NHC and HLD. Our recent Ofsted Inspection in November 2003 identified our provision in this area as Outstanding with an overall grade for the College as Good. We have a strong team and a clear vision to continually improve our provision which supports over 1200 students each year and ensure that we are providing excellent additional learning support to our students.
You will have experience of management within an Additional Learning Support team with a proven track record of leading change and embedding a quality support service across a similar sized organisation. As such, you will need to line manage and professionally develop the ALS Centre Coordinators team, based across all sites. You will also co-ordinate the implementation of Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs) within cross college vocational areas ensuring that outcomes and provision are embedded for all learners with SEND.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Work with the Head of ALS to develop the team by motivating and inspiring colleagues to deliver outstanding support.
* Facilitate a lean, effective, and efficient resource model for ALS across NHC and HLD through optimised timetabling/staff utilisation and the use of learning technologies to effectively promote engagement and independent learning.
* Analyse information about service delivery, staffing and resources and use this to drive business and financial decision making.
* Support with the forecast and deliver against agreed budgets for the provision of ALS.
* Support the Head of ALS to establish robust self-evaluation and monitoring processes to drive improvement and disseminate good practice, within the ALS provision and across the organisation.
* Assist the Head of ALS in identifying key professional development needs and provide appropriate training to ensure ALS staff have the specialist skills and knowledge to deliver high quality personalised support that effectively meets our learner’s needs.
* Identify and develop all talented team members to support succession planning, devoting time to coach/mentor others.
* Work with Curriculum Managers to adopt an inclusive approach to improving the attendance, retention and achievement of our learners with SEND.
* Ensure the effective and timely management of exam access arrangement assessments.
* Coordinate the ALS team to assess the individual needs of new learners with SEND and liaise with cross college curriculum areas to implement transition arrangements.
* Ensure that the ALS team contribute timely, high quality feedback as part of the centrally managed EHCP annual review process and attend or chair annual review meetings, as required.
* Develop strong working links with external stakeholders including families, educational settings and local authorities to ensure the progression of learners.
* Look for opportunities to share or maximise resources.
* Remain up to date with government guidance in relation to SEND such as Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) and implement any statutory changes to legislation.
* Work with colleagues across the organisation to ensure we are providing necessary safeguarding support for students.
* Work with the Head of ALS and Director of SEND to undertake any other duties that support the organisation.
