Sussex Equine Hospital are looking for a Head Groom to join the hospital clinic team.
The individual must be enthusiastic, motivated, organised, adaptable to change and able to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment. Experience managing and handling horses ranging from youngstock to fit competition horses in a confident manner is a must. A basic knowledge of biosecurity is desirable but not compulsory.
Suitable candidates will be required to manage the day to day running of the yard, directing a small team of grooms in their daily duties and allocating them to assist with clinical procedures as required. They will also be required to liaise with the senior clinicians, interns and the nursing team regarding inpatient care, admissions and discharges.
The Head Groom will also be responsible for maintaining a high standard of patient care and cleanliness throughout the hospital barns and stable units, ensuring biosecurity protocols are implemented at all times.
Additional roles and responsibilities include:
* Organising the groom rota including weekends and Bank Holidays
* Allocating stables to inpatients and ensuring correct cleaning protocols are adhered to following discharge
* Liaising with the Clinic Scheduling Assistant regarding admissions and discharges on a week by week basis
* Maintaining a strong line of communication between the clinic team, laboratory and clinic scheduling assistant.
* Ordering feed, bedding and general yard supplies
* Basic paddock and arena maintenance
* Covering or organising cover for sickness and holiday where appropriate
* Own transportation is compulsory due to remote location.

We are located in rural Sussex, with good train links to London, Brighton and Worthing. Here, there are lots of country walks and the seaside is only 20 miles away.
You will be working with a highly skilled team of Vets, Nurses and Grooms. We have fantastic lab and pharmacy provision, with great staff and a brilliant administrative team.
Our team is made up of 4 specialist Surgeons, 2 Internal Medicine specialists, 2 Repro specialists and 1 Sports Medicine specialist. We also have 3 Nurses, 4 Student Nurses, 1 Nursing Assistant, 6 Grooms, 2 Pharmacy dispensers, 3 Scientific Officers, a Clinic Supervisor, 6 Interns, 1 Resident, 13 support staff, 2 Housekeepers and 12 Ambulatory Veterinarians.
We hold a Bi-Yearly Open Day, where we collect donations for a charity as voted by the staff. Moreover, we also sponsor local events and have regular staff socials that everyone can attend.
The role will be full time, 40 hours a week and also to be included as part of the weekend and Bank Holiday rota.
