Role Overview:
The MOD GP provides primary care and general medical services to military personnel and their families, ensuring that they maintain optimal health and fitness. The role requires delivering high-quality medical care in diverse and sometimes challenging environments, adhering to both MOD and NHS standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Care: Provide comprehensive primary medical care, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
2. Health Assessments: Conduct pre-deployment health assessments, routine health checks, and occupational health evaluations.
3. Emergency Response: Participate in emergency medical response and provide care in field hospitals or operational environments as required.
4. Patient Management: Manage patient records accurately and confidentially, ensuring all medical documentation is up-to-date and compliant with MOD regulations.
5. Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, specialists, and allied health professionals, to deliver integrated care.
6. Medical Advice: Offer medical advice to commanders and other military staff on health-related issues, fitness for duty, and injury prevention.
7. Health Promotion: Engage in health promotion activities and provide education on preventive measures to enhance overall wellbeing.
8. Training: Participate in ongoing professional development and training, including military-specific medical training.
9. Operational Readiness: Maintain readiness for deployment and provide medical support in operational settings as required.
Qualifications:
1. Medical Degree: A recognized medical qualification (e.g., MBBS, MD) and full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
2. Experience: Previous experience in a GP role is essential; or similar high-pressure environment is advantageous.
3. Skills: Strong clinical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and a sound understanding of military life and its demands.
4. Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain security clearance as required by the MOD.
