Consultant Psychiatrist in Rehabilitation Psychiatry The post holder will be managerially responsible to Dr Arif Alam, Clinical Director, Mental Health, and professionally responsible to Dr Dom Hurford, Medical Director. The post holder will be required to work closely with senior medical colleagues in both District General Hospitals and in Mental Health as appropriate and to liaise with other senior clinicians within and beyond the UHB as and when necessary. The post will be based at Keir Hardie Health Park. The Community Rehabilitation Unit are based in Treorchy and Inpatient Unit at RGH. The post holder will be expected to work at other Health Board premises and at other sites within the district as required. Office accommodation with single occupancy and dedicated IT facilities is provided at Keir Hardie Health Park. Electronic patient records (FACE) are used in some areas of Mental Health services but the post holder will be expected to use whatever records system is in use in the clinical area where they are working. There is ample access to appropriate IT systems in all offices and clinical areas. E-mail, internet access and electronic access to clinical information systems will be available. The post is supported by full time administrative and secretarial staff. The post holder will be required to liaise with other senior clinicians as and when necessary. The post holder will be expected to provide clinical psychiatric rehabilitation expertise and leadership to a defined multidisciplinary outreach and recovery team and an inpatient rehabilitation team. provide specialist assessment and clinical management of patients aged 18 and over with mental health problems under the ORT and inpatients at KHHP provide medical liaison and advice regarding patients to local consultants and GPs as necessary. provide supervision for the speciality doctor and core trainee, and to a Specialty Training Registrar if the post holder is approved as an Educational Supervisor and if an ST is allocated to the team. liaise effectively with members of the team, other services within the Health Board, general practitioners and other agencies. contribute to the management of the service by attendance at appropriate committees and meetings, by involvement in audit and by taking on specific management roles which may, from time to time, be agreed. play an active role in the education and training of medical, nursing and other staff. maintain their professional knowledge base and competency by involvement in continuing professional development (CPD) and to take part in the Wales Revalidation Process which includes annual appraisals for the purposes of revalidation. Arrange cross cover with the other rehabilitation and sector consultants. take part in the consultant on-call rota within the Mental Health Directorate. undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health Act as a s.12 approved doctor and as an Approved Clinician. undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010. Cefn-Yr-Afon is a 14-bedded mixed gender mental health rehabilitation unit based in Bridgend. The service provides rehabilitation and recovery to individual residents within an open environment. The unit works on the principles of a Community Rehabilitation Unit as described in the RCPsych Rehabilitation Faculty Report, Enabling Recovery For People with Complex Mental Health Needs. The unit consists of two 7-bedded units. All individual bedrooms have en-suite facilities.
