Job Title: Senior Support Worker
Job Location: Plymouth
Salary: £28,080 based on 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent
Every child should have the opportunity to go for a day out at Sparkwell Zoo, go on a boat trip, play crazy golf, go go-karting, or see Crownhill Fort! Plymouth has so much to offer a child. We make sure the children supported by Phoenix Learning and Care get to experience as many of the great things other children do as possible – but we need your help.
Our children have social and emotional needs related to Autism, ADHD, or Trauma. They need good role models to help them flourish. With your support, we can make that happen. The children will have difficult days and need more help at home, especially if overwhelmed. Your support on those days will make the good days even more special. You’ll really be able to see the positive impact of your relationships as the children grow.
This role is working in our one- or two-bedroom homes based in and around Plymouth, so you’ll really get to know the team and the children. The children need support 24 hours a day, meaning you’ll be able to work your full week in 2-3 days, which is only 10 shifts per month!
As a Senior Support Worker, you’ll lead your shifts and, when needed, support the Registered Manager with recruitment, supervision, meetings, and inspections.
A day in the life of a Senior Support Worker will involve:
1. Assisting the manager with recruitment, supervision, meetings, and inspections.
2. Supporting children to have the best quality of life possible, whether it be through baking at home, fun days out, or holidays with the children.
3. Ensuring our children are kept safe and their plans are suitable for their needs, helping monitor their development by keeping our systems and records up to date.
4. Taking part in our on-call rota, averaging 1 on-call per week, with an additional allowance for this.
To be a successful Senior Support Worker, you’ll need:
1. Patience, compassion, and resilience – the children you’ll support may have experienced trauma, which may impact their behaviour.
2. Great communication skills – both verbal and written communication is important in this role.
3. A driving licence – our children love to be out in the community, and you will need to drive them.
4. To be flexible – you’ll need to be able to sleep at the home during your shifts.
5. Ideally, a qualification in residential childcare, or the commitment to obtain one within your first 2 years of working in the sector.
In return for your time, you’ll get:
1. Holidays: 28 days annual leave, with an extra day off for your birthday after your first year.
2. Pension scheme: Based on you paying in 5%, and us adding 3%.
3. Learning & Development Opportunities: Comprehensive learning opportunities for team members.
4. Discounts: Access to discounts through the Blue Light Card and our employee benefits platform.
5. Wellbeing Support: Access to mental health and wellbeing support, including a monthly confidential check-in clinic.
6. Cycle2Work: A scheme enabling you to buy a bicycle at a discounted rate.
7. DBS: We will cover the cost of an enhanced DBS check.
8. Sleep-in Allowance: Potential to earn up to an additional £6,183 per year based on completing 10 sleep-in shifts per month.
9. After 12 months service: Eligibility for our Medicash scheme, life assurance, and high street discounts.
In line with safer recruitment guidelines, we will run an online check on the successful candidate, which may include public social media profiles.
