Job Title: Senior Buyer / Supplier Relationship Manager

Overview:
A world-leading engineering and manufacturing business near Hook is seeking a Senior Buyer/Supplier Relationship Manager. This key role focuses on building strong relationships with suppliers to manage delivery, quality, and cost (QCD) performance across a range of products and services. The role is multifaceted, combining the responsibilities of account management and senior buying, with a strong emphasis on supplier performance improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Supplier Management:
Identify, research, and onboard new suppliers across the product range. Optimize the supply base to increase leverage, reduce lead times, and ensure competitive pricing.
Quality and Delivery Performance:
Develop a deep understanding of suppliers' manufacturing processes to drive improvements in delivery, lead times, and quality. Manage and track non-conforming materials, ensuring effective returns procedures and corrective actions are implemented.
Strategic Procurement and Purchasing:
Work closely with department managers to develop and implement purchasing strategies, manage stock levels in line with production and forecast requirements, and ensure the on-time delivery of materials to meet production schedules.
Supplier Audits and Reviews:
Conduct audits and monthly supplier reviews, evaluate and manage vendor scorecards to ensure suppliers are meeting QCD expectations. Proactively manage supplier vulnerability and risks, establishing mitigation actions where necessary.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvement and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to implement best practices in procurement, aiming for continuous improvement in all areas.Experience and Skills Required:
Negotiation and Supplier Management:
Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to secure optimal deals.
Procurement Expertise:
Strong understanding of procurement practices, particularly within a low-volume, high-variance manufacturing environment. Experience in managing complex supplier bases and optimizing supply chains.
System Knowledge:
Familiarity with procurement software such as Sage is beneficial, though not essential.
Communication and Relationship Building:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build commercial relationships and engage effectively across various departments.
Problem Solving and Resilience:
Ability to maintain a continuous improvement mindset, remaining resilient and pragmatic when facing challenges.Perks and Benefits:
