Job Type: Full time, permanent Days: Monday to Friday Salary: £77,250k per annum management bonus Benefits: 28 days annual leave increasing with length of service, plus 4 public holidays, company car, medical cash back scheme, life insurance, private pension, staff discounts and more Job Purpose: We are seeking a bright, enthusiastic and well-organised qualified lawyer with a keen interest in commercial law to support our in-house legal function as UK & Ireland Group Legal Counsel As an expert in their field, the UK & Ireland Group Legal Counsel will be responsible for a broad scope of responsibilities with a significant emphasis on effective management of legal compliance issues, advisory service and strong relationship management. This role has ownership and accountability for providing professional advice and establishing frameworks in legal, governance, risk and compliance. This position would suit an ambitious and driven individual who has a pragmatic approach and is motivated and dedicated to take ownership and excel in this dynamic position. If successful, the UK & Ireland Group Legal Counsel would be responsible for supporting a wide range of commercial legal matters in the UK and Ireland, including commercial and contract law, supporting a number of departments across the business on company procedures, risk management and compliance. Job Scope: You will require awareness and detailed knowledge of: Contracts - common terms and conditions Commercial awareness - common causes of complaints and claims Dispute resolution Contract law Key Responsibilities: Commercial Contracts: Preparing, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements (including goods and services agreements, master service agreements, and framework agreements) with customers and suppliers, aligning with legal standards and Matthew Algie’s values. Data Privacy: supporting with subject access requests and ensuring marketing compliance. Regulatory Compliance and Governance: Staying ahead of UK legal developments, from data protection to the FCA, and ensuring such awareness/compliance across the business Corporate Governance: Regulatory compliance, board governance, corporate structuring. Working with and managing external counsel supporting the team on varying projects/matter Contributing to cross-jurisdictional legal teams from corporate housekeeping to reporting. Providing day to day advice to colleagues across the business on a wide variety of other commercial issues, working collaboratively to manage commercial transactions, identifying risks and providing solutions-driven, commercial advice. Support in the management of insurance claims Knowledge of legal principles, obligations, responsibility of international contracts law/ UK law.
