Job Title: Health & Safety Advisor
Reports to: Venue & Operations Director
Department: Health and Safety
Job Purpose:
The individual will be an enthusiastic and motivated professional person and as an integral member of the club, you will be a key player in the implementation, management, and development of all Club Safety Policies, ensuring compliance with legislative and other requirements as laid down by the relevant statutory and governing bodies.
The individual will bring innovative ideas to the workplace, focusing on improving and providing suitable protective and preventive measures to protect employees, volunteers, and others (such as visitors, contractors, etc.) from harm, as well as providing an exceptional match day experience for supporters. They will be open to new challenges and full of initiative.
Reporting directly to the Venue & Operations Director and working closely with the Operations Advisor, the Health & Safety Advisor will be expected to:
1. Act as an expert resource to others within the Club advising the Board and Executive Team on compliance and regulatory requirements across the business.
2. Liaise with the HR Department to put in place suitable safety training to educate company staff on necessary safety principles.
3. Liaise with staff to promote awareness and incident prevention.
4. Develop and implement safety procedures and policies for production operations.
5. Take part in health and safety committee meetings.
6. Participate in incident investigations identifying root causes and advising on corrective actions.
7. Prepare and present periodic reports of safety operations to company management.
8. Collaborate with HSE or other agencies to address cases of workplace accidents.
9. Make recommendations on safety topics such as proper waste disposal, fire regulations, and noise.
10. Conduct risk assessments to identify work areas with a high risk of operational hazard.
11. Review company operational processes to ensure they are in line with external safety legislation.
12. Monitor work processes and procedures to identify unsafe practices or breaches of safety regulations.
13. Review all accidents/incidents and near misses, advising on corrective actions.
14. Advise on Health & Safety and prepare audits and inspections at regular intervals to ensure compliance.
15. Assist in maintaining health and safety documentation.
16. Assist in compliance with all applicable legislation.
17. Assist in preparing health and safety reports/audits.
18. Be well-versed in developing safe operational strategies and solutions to minimize incidents.
19. Able to provide company staff with useful safety information in clear language.
20. Possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people at different levels in the organization.
21. Deputize for the Head of Operations and Infrastructure at internal and external meetings as requested.
The post holder will:
1. Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience at a senior level working within the Health & Safety Sector.
2. Hold certification from a recognized occupational health and safety body.
3. Demonstrate experience with UK regulations in a similar role.
4. Exhibit excellent planning skills.
5. Be a good communicator – written and oral skills, good judgment, confident, persuasive, approachable, dependable, uses initiative, and professional.
6. Be IT literate, including Microsoft Office.
7. Have excellent organizational skills and time management abilities.
8. Have customer-facing experience and possess a natural aptitude for assisting people.
9. Maintain a friendly, positive ‘can do’ and courteous attitude.
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 10 hours per week
Holidays: 34 days per year including public holidays (Holiday year 1 August to 31 July)
Pension: NEST
Driving Licence: Not Required (but desirable)
