Job Description:
Are you experienced in safety & operational risk management leadership, have a passion for making organisations more effective, as well as a track record in making sustainable change happen? Are you interested in joining S&ORA (Safety & Operational Risk Assurance), a group of technical professionals who deliver assurance on the effectiveness of the Line's OMS processes and barriers to manage the most material S&O risks? If the answer is yes to these questions, then it would be great to hear from you!
About the opportunity:
In S&ORA we are hiring the role of Assurance Process Performance Lead (APPL), who will work to make the delivery of our assurance more effective. Through improvements and better integration across the suite of assurance processes, protocols, digital tools and assurer resources. In this role, as the successful candidate, you will be key in supporting building capability across the assurer community.
The role scope spans the entire assurance lifecycle from dynamic planning, protocol development, focused execution, through to impactful reporting. It covers all three assurance types deployed in S&ORA, i.e. Planned, Day-to-Day (D2D) and Structured (via S&ORA agree rights).
About the role and what you will deliver:
1. Managing an improvement backlog to deliver the most value-adding initiatives and enhancements, informed by assurer feedback and agreed performance inputs and metrics.
2. Setting up and leading small collaborative agile squads to deliver and implement targeted incremental improvements, gauging user reaction and utilising iterative design techniques.
3. Working with SMEs inside and outside S&ORA to develop new or updated assurance protocols and reporting approaches, with stewardship of S&ORA's protocol library.
4. Working with other partners to integrate more advanced digital tools and techniques into the assurance methodology suite, including data extraction, analytics and AI.
5. Using various engagement approaches to manage communication of assurance methodology changes or performance improvement initiatives across the whole of S&ORA.
6. Offering 1-2-1 coaching, organising best methodology sharing sessions, or updating S&ORAs 'learner pathway, to build capability, for both general and targeted functional needs.
7. Maintaining and updating S&ORA's Assurance Practice and repository of assurance processes to reflect how work happens in S&ORA.
8. Working with industry partners and bodies to benchmark 'world-class/best methodology' offers in assurance process and tools.
What you will need to be successful:
1. A degree or equivalent experience in an Operational, Engineering or HSE related subject, ideally combined with a broad background across OMS, process safety, risk and assurance.
2. Natural curiosity in improving business and people processes, building individual and organisational capability, as well as delivering user centric solutions.
3. Adept at working at both the strategic and practical level, translating vision into action and managing this over multiple phases and on occasion extended timelines.
4. An intuitive influencer able to engage across a breadth of partners and interfaces to listen and understand differing views, navigating a way forward, being prepared to hold or adapt as needed.
5. An ability to make informed decisions regarding application of S&ORA assurance processes and provide clear, consistent guidance and simple requirements.
6. Capable of communicating and landing key messages at all levels of the organisation, being succinct and impactful, using appropriate verbal, visual and/or written approaches.
7. Proficient digital skills, both for data interpretation to understand process performance, as well as collaborating with the Digital organisation in defining the needs of S&ORA.
8. Experience challenging and deconstructing existing process to simplify and remove complexity, using techniques such value stream mapping and human factors/performance.
9. Practiced in the use of agile techniques to deliver projects - simple user centric products, sprint delivery, collaboration, iterative design thinking and piloting, retrospective learning.
10. Acting as a change agent, delivery and solution oriented, able to lead through ambiguous or complex initiatives, taking people on the journey from their reality to a common future.
Additional role expectations:
1. At times, in a small team, flexibility is key to achieve our goals. Activities may as a result be added to the APPL role, including picking-up aspects of the Assurance Programme Lead (APL) role or greater involvement leading digital activity.
2. As a potential development opportunity and in support of S&ORA's purpose, the opportunity may arise to participate in (or lead) Assurance Events to 'understand how work happens'.
Why join our team?
We support our people to learn and grow in a diverse and ambitious environment. We believe that our team is strengthened by diversity. We are committed to crafting an inclusive environment in which everyone is respected and treated fairly.
Beyond the APPL role, there are further potential career opportunities in S&ORA in subject area specific assurer roles, as well as roles in maintaining and supporting the implementation of OMS. You can consider tailored training and experiential offers to further develop enhanced skills for roles both in S&ORA or to open-up a wider set of future bp career paths.
