Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a forward-thinking and experienced Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) to lead and coordinate our growing team of sessional PMAs. The lead PMA will utilise the four key elements of the NHSE A-EQUIP (Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement) model to facilitate clear direction and coordination of the PMA team.
You will develop a culture of support enabling midwives across all areas to provide high-quality care, identifying opportunities for improvements. Working in conjunction with the maternity governance team and senior midwives, the Lead PMA will enable newly qualified and experienced staff to recognise and promote personal and professional accountability, gain self-awareness and encourage educational opportunities for self-development.
Main duties of the job
This role is an integral part of the maternity service. You will be expected to collaborate with the local risk, governance, and practice development teams, providing professional advice and supporting quality improvement networking with PMAs at each of our maternity sites and in the wider region. You will be pivotal in providing professional leadership to midwives by embedding the A-EQUIP model of support.
You should be a sensitive and compassionate leader, able to influence others through shared education and learning opportunities and articulate feedback from staff to support service improvement. The successful candidate will be accountable to the Head of Midwifery and report directly to the Lead Midwife for Risk and Governance and will be responsible for coordinating and developing an inspirational growing team of PMAs.

* Registered Midwife - Qualified Professional Midwifery Advocate
* Demonstrable experience as active PMA
* First Level Degree or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
