Oliver, 19, is an active, happy and cheerful young man with a great sense of humour. He enjoys listening to music, watching Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol, trips out on public transport and top of his hobby list is visiting places with Windmills. Oliver sustained a brain injury following a misdiagnosis of meningitis after birth. As a result, he has a complicated neurodevelopment disorder which presents as a Learning Disability, Hydrocephalus with a VP shunt in situ, epilepsy (controlled via medication), ADHD, right side Hemiplegia, reduced mobility, and expressive communication difficulties. Oliver struggles with self-regulation and can at times display behaviors that may challenge. He lives with his father; his mother and grandparents visit very regularly, he is very much a family man. We are building up Oliver’s care team gradually to provide 2:1 support.
Overview of Role: Oliver’s Support Worker / PA will assist with his activities of daily living, planning and attending activities/outings both at home and out in the community. Oliver likes to plan and be organised, he needs his Support Worker / PA to assist him in this area and would like support with cooking meals and preparing healthy snacks and drinks. Due to Oliver’s VP shunt, he always needs close monitoring in case the shunt becomes compromised (further information available at the interview). You will continually promote Oliver’s independence and support him with his self-help skills and regulation. At times Oliver can present with behaviours that may challenge, therefore, it is essential that you have experience in this area. This role is full-time offering a permanent contract, as Oliver can find it difficult to meet new people the transition to full-time hours will be gradual, however, you will be paid for full-time hours whilst building up a relationship with Oliver. Light household duties related to Oliver are included in the role and responsibilities.
