The position is based in Bristol at Stoke Gifford Train Maintenance Centre. This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to start their career in rail as NO railway experience is required for this role Salary: £41,908 15% Shift allowance £3,000 Location Allowance Permanent contract Accountabilities In this exciting role you will be undertaking maintenance and repair on Hitachi rolling stock assets and also operate and maintain the wheel lathe. This is a permanent role working on a rotating shift basis. Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables: Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment. Support health and safety practices in the workplace. Prepare for and undertake planned maintenance on the wheel lathe & ancillary equipment. Carryout wheel turning for Hitachi and third-party rolling stock. Post operation checks and adjustments. Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications. Provide operational support to fleet staff if lathe duties permit. Develop professionally and support good working relationships. Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required. Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post. Prepare for and undertake planned and some unplanned defect maintenance on Hitachi rolling stock assets. Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications by the use of engineering processes and techniques. Prepare for and undertake the removal and replacement of traction and rolling stock components. Modify or manufacture traction and rolling stock components by material removal using hand tools. Assemble traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques. Install new traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques. Identify, assess and rectify defects and discrepancies on Hitachi rolling stock assets. Carryout repairs to traction and rolling stock following technical scopes of work. Provide operational support to users of Hitachi rolling stock assets. Assist with operational problems as they arise. About you Required Skills/ Knowledge Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations Good written and verbal communication skills Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times. Good team worker Education/Qualifications M & E ONC or served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines Engineering based NVQ level 3. Desired Skills (not essential) Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel Milling/Turning/CNC or similar experience. Network Rail Sentinel PTS Depot driving and shunting.
