About the role: To support the management of the LGV operation in an efficient and professional manner ensuring all targets are met without loss in performance to the business, across a variety of shift patterns within the department management structure. To monitor, oversee and organise shift operations, including fleet, facilities and people management. To effectively communicate at both group and one-to-one level to all LGV drivers, shunters and banksmen, internal departments and outside service providers. To work with the management team, taking a lead in representing the brand, inspiring and motivating the site team and engaging with them whilst at all times demonstrating the company culture and values. To proactively support the management of the LGV drivers and LGV operation and ensure we are compliant with all of our obligations to the Traffic Commissioner. To effectively support the LGV team ensuring all runs are completed in a timely manner, enabling the business as a whole to exceed the customer’s expectations. Undertake to support meetings following company disciplinary and grievance processes, enforcing site rules and ensure safe working practices are undertaken at all times. To provide cover for the LGV Team Manager during breaks on a day to day basis, as well as providing sickness and holiday cover where necessary. This role involves working on a rotating schedule, including weekends, with an average of 42 hours per week. The schedule follows a 4-on-4-off pattern, where shifts alternate between day and night. The shift hours are from 07:00 - 19:00 and 19:00 - 07:00, providing a balanced and consistent work pattern. You will be: The LGV Shift Supervisor is responsible for supporting the management of personnel by company policies and procedures. Being at the forefront of people management on our site will involve dealing with employee issues professionally, providing feedback when necessary, and ensuring that all team members receive the required training. Collaborating with the Training Team to assist in the integration of new employees and ongoing training for the LGV team as needed is a key aspect of the role. Additionally, the LGV Shift Supervisor will be fostering a positive working environment, supporting site events and forums, fostering positive communication with external providers, and promoting a culture of excellence within the LGV team to minimise employee churn and improve morale. In this role effective shift and fleet management will contribute to the seamless operation of our fleet by ensuring efficient load dispatch, monitoring vehicle defects, arranging servicing and inspections, administering Fleetboard reports, overseeing trailer tranships, tracking missing mileages, and managing breakdowns and recoveries. Responsibilities will extend to administrative tasks including but not limited to vehicle documentation, Smartdrive maintenance, vehicle temperature monitoring, fuel and AdBlue deliveries, workplace inspections, yard checks, and control of permits to work. Safety is paramount in our operations, and the LGV Shift Supervisor will play a key role in maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. This involves displaying safety information, providing adequate training, and ensuring personnel are aware of emergency procedures. Enforcing safety rules and taking a lead in setting a personal example, is vital to the role as this will contribute to maintaining a safe and secure working environment.
