We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a full-time Clinical Team Leader within the specialty of Trauma and Orthopaedics, joining our dedicated orthopaedic team. As part of the reorganization of Trauma and Orthopaedic services in East Anglia, West Suffolk Hospital is seeking an experienced Team Leader to effectively implement these changes.
Main duties of the job
* To exercise leadership by personal example, fostering good interpersonal relationships and encouraging high staff morale
* Accept responsibility for the day-to-day management of patient activity ensuring the service provided is maintained at a high standard
* Deliver a high-quality service for all patients within sphere of responsibility
* Participate in both elective and emergency cover for the unit.
* Act as role model and be a credible practitioner within the clinical area
* Ensure that all staff are trained and are competent to use equipment in the clinical area, liaising with Theatre Training Department.
* Effect the dissemination of information to allow staff to take responsibility for decision making within the team.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
* To exercise leadership by personal example, fostering good interpersonal relationships and encouraging high staff morale
* Assist with the placement of appropriate personnel/skills across the department
* Assist with the management of resources in the clinical area within the agreed budget.
* Implement Trust and directorate evidence-based policies and guidelines
* Work closely with own team, Clinical/Operational Manager to promote good working relationships with all members of the multi-disciplinary team
* Maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas of the Trust.
* With assistance, manage staff performance and development through a process of appraisal, which should include a cycle of constructive performance review and the establishment of a relevant personal development plan
* Act as a resource for the support and guidance of staff, patients, and relatives
* Assist in the monitoring and management of staff sickness and absence with support
* Assist with the process of ensuring that all staff have had the relevant training and statutory updating regarding mandatory training, i.e., COSHH, Health and Safety, Infection Control Policy, Resuscitation, Moving and Handling and Fire Lecture
* Be actively involved with the Disciplinary Procedure as required
* Contribute to local policy and guideline development within the agreed Trust strategy
* Contribute to the continuing development of the philosophy of care ensuring it reflects the beliefs and values upheld within the clinical setting.
* Act as an ambassador for the Trust in professional and public settings
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
* Accept responsibility for the day-to-day management of patient activity ensuring the service provided is maintained at a high standard
* Assist in the development of communication systems and maintain existing effective systems within the clinical area with nursing, the multi-disciplinary team, support services staff and with patient, relatives, and carers.
* Assist the ward manager/team leader to manage resources within agreed budgets as set by the Clinical Services Manager.
* Provide managerial support to the Departments out of hours service
* Deputise for the Clinical Team Manager, taking responsibility for an identified group of patients, ensuring that all events involving these patients are co-ordinated, documented, and communicated to the appropriate people at the right time.
* Assist in the management of the team’s performance and the patient care provided within the clinical area.
* Monitor and evaluate the standards of practice within the Theatre team, promoting a patient-centred approach to care.
* Act within the Complaints Procedure as required
* In conjunction with Line Manager, take responsibility for recruitment, in line with the Trust’s procedures
* Represent staff interest and concerns as required at directorate level
* Adhere to legal requirements of the Trust, the Nursing and Midwifery Council and HPC e.g., record keeping
* Conduct appraisals and assist in formulating personal development plans for theatre team members.
* Assist and support the ward manager/team leader in the overall management of the area, organise and deploy staff ensuring appropriate cover to meet patients' demands.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Education & Qualifications
* 1st Level Nurse on part 1 or 12 of the NMC Register
* ODP /DipHE ODP registered on HCP
* ENB 998 or C&G 730
* A1 Assessors award
* ENB 176 /183/182 or equivalent
* Preparation for Mentorship
* Diploma or Degree pathway
Experience & Knowledge
* 2 years at Band 5 in a peri-operative environment
* Experience of staff supervision and training
* Foundation Management course
* Managing People/Change Module
