Due to increasing demand for our products, Michelmersh Brick Holdings are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our team at our Romsey (Hampshire) plant as a Maintenance Fitter.
Job Description
The successful applicant will be working in our Maintenance department, supporting the Maintenance Manager in the continuous improvement of all factory areas such as Health & Safety, production output, efficiency, productivity, and environmental impacts. The role involves management of all day and afternoon maintenance activities, stores stock accountability, carrying out PPM, workshop, and stores housekeeping, ensuring downtime is minimized and company standards are complied with.
An awareness of health and safety must be demonstrated in the workplace at all times.
The key job duties and responsibilities are as follows:
1. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager whilst being integrated into a team of fully skilled engineers.
2. Responding to breakdowns, including mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic failures as a priority to ensure plant uptime is maintained.
3. Assisting in the analysis of breakdowns to establish root causes and implement corrective action.
4. Contributing towards the PPM system ensuring proactive checks are completed on time.
5. Overhauling, manufacturing, repairing, and refurbishing parts and equipment in the onsite maintenance workshop outside of breakdowns and PPMs.
6. Fulfilling parts requisitions upon completion of work to ensure stock levels are retained, minimizing downtime.
7. Assisting with ongoing project work, such as new equipment installation and factory improvements.
8. Liaising with fellow colleagues on different shift patterns, handing over work and reporting any issues.
9. Undertaking any reasonable requests for training, either internally or externally, to improve performance and capabilities.
10. Maintaining high levels of compliance with health and safety standards while performing duties.
11. Flexibility to occasionally work outside of shift patterns when cover is required.
12. Following the company Lock Off Tag Out Try Out procedure at all times.
13. Completing all shift work instructions and filling in the report book accordingly.
14. Assisting with the compiling of Risk Assessments and SPTW, adhering to all active procedures.
15. Monitoring and supplying mechanical support for machine set-up and changeovers to ensure that products conform to quality assurance standards while ensuring changeovers are as efficient as possible.
16. Providing maintenance shift cover when required.
17. Carrying the company radio at all times to ensure a quick response to breakdowns.
18. Undertaking any reasonable request made during working hours.
19. Maintenance personnel are expected to work during shutdown periods, and any holidays booked will be authorized at their manager's discretion.
To be successful in the role, the right candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
1. Formal qualifications within mechanical engineering (Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC, or similar).
2. Solid work history and experience working in a mechanical position required for this role.
3. Experience servicing and repairing components.
4. Good competency with hydraulics and pneumatics.
5. Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
6. Ability to weld, grind, and use oxygen/acetylene equipment.
7. Previous experience in a manufacturing environment would be an advantage.

3. Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
4. Electrical experience.
5. Preferably a forklift truck license but not essential.

Salary up to £44,000 per year dependent on experience, with additional monthly production bonuses paid based on production targets being met.

Other information applicable to the role:
Shift work on a weekly changeover from 06:00 - 14:00 and 14:00 – 22:00, Monday – Friday.
Holidays are not fixed. Maintenance personnel (in agreement with their supervisor) may take holidays outside of the fixed holiday period throughout the holiday year.
