About the role We are currently recruiting for Building Maintenance Surveyors to join our Crawley Homes team. Crawley is an exciting place to work, with a vibrant town centre and excellent transport connections. We have recently moved into a brand-new Town Hall so it is a great time to join us as we settle into our new state of the art offices with excellently designed spaces that facilitate collaborative working. We are a stock retained authority with over 8,400 homes, 5000 garages and approximately 1700 leaseholders, plus sheltered and hostel accommodation under our management. The stock is managed by the Crawley Homes division of the council. Crawley Homes is one of the leading social housing providers in the region. You will be responsible for the programmed diagnosis of building maintenance repairs throughout the current council owned housing stock in Crawley, including: property Inspections for vacant homes when the void property surveyor is on leave home improvements surveys for planned and cyclical work mutual exchanges writing specifications of work supervision of contractors inspection and reports for disrepair inspection and reports for damp and mould and disrepair administration including complaints You will take responsibility for the supervision of planned maintenance and day to day repair work in a dedicated area and be expected to cover other areas within our borough when required. You will also provide technical support to the planned maintenance and responsive repairs contractors; specifying repairs and building work, certifying payments, and resolving disputes with contractors and customers. Duties will include relevant procurement of projects, contract supervision and administration, approval of expenditure, quality assurance and technical advice. You need to be a self-motivated, experienced Building Maintenance Surveyor or have experience in the supervision of staff or contractors within a trade background. You will have proven knowledge of building construction repairs and replacements of key building elements including, external decorations, windows and doors, kitchens, bathrooms etc. The position will require visits to tenants' homes and to work remotely from home or from the Town Hall as and when required. It would be an advantage, although not essential, if you have worked within a social housing maintenance and project management environment. Additional information A full current UK driving licence is a requirement of the role. Satisfactory clearance of a Basic Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS) will be a condition of employment.
