Job overview
The post holder will work as part of a Critical Care team of scientific staff who provide Clinical and Technical cover for several critical care areas. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the CCS will be responsible for the life support systems central to their safe and proper function and use. A broad range of patient connected apparatus and other vital equipment is involved which requires complex and often non-routine intervention by the scientific team.
The work within our Critical Care departments offers the opportunity for you to perform a broad range of clinical and technical techniques. Our dynamic environment provides unique challenges as technology advances within the NHS in a stimulating learning environment, with comprehensive orientation, support from colleagues and the opportunity to work within a large multi-disciplinary team.
As a Senior Critical Care Scientist, you will work as part of a Critical Care team of scientists providing cover for Adult, Paediatric and Newborn areas, including weekend work and participating in an on-call rota.
The Critical Care Unit provides a dynamic and conducive environment for gaining additional knowledge and skills with the opportunity to develop your skills and directly affect their role within the structure of the group. Training will be made available in all aspects of the job including clinical, technical and IT support. New skills, fresh challenges and wide experience are to be gained.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will operate in purpose built state of the art Critical Care Units equipped with the latest technology available to enhance the care delivered to level two and three patients of all ages and specialities.
The diversity this creates provides a dynamic and conducive environment for gaining new knowledge and skills. The constant expansion of these services provides fresh challenges and wide experience to be gained in the support of a diverse patient mix with specialties including; Haematology, Trauma, Vascular Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Renal Medicine/Transplant and Head & Neck Surgery.
Support will be provided with on-going professional development and post-basic study in the form of ongoing external and in-service training and education opportunities.
We are seeking highly motivated and innovative individuals who will perform a role in our dynamic Critical Care Science Team in order to facilitate the continued development within our services in line with the NHS modernisation agenda in Healthcare Science.

Qualifications
* Degree level qualifications in a relevant field such as: Physiological Measurements/Medical Electronics/Laboratory Medicine/Operating Department Practitioner.
* Master’s Degree level qualification in a relevant field.
Knowledge
* Technical, clinical, Scientific, laboratory and computation.
* Teaching and training techniques.
Training and Experience
* Experience in healthcare professions or similar in an area such as: Theatre, Clinical technology, MEAM, Physiological Measurement, Nursing.
* Experience of working in a similar department within a large University Hospital Critical Care Area.
