Job Introduction
BBC Radio Scotland is looking for an experienced journalist who also has extensive live broadcasting experience to join the Radio News Bulletins Desk working Friday to Sunday inclusive on an early/late shift pattern. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of BBC Scotland’s news operation and would suit someone with an interest in politics, cultural life, domestic and foreign news to shape the news agenda. The role is office based at Pacific Quay, Glasgow.
Main Responsibilities
* Present BBC Radio Scotland’s live hourly news bulletins Friday to Sunday inclusive, in a manner which is timely, accurate, impartial and engaging.
* Excellent writing skills to ensure all content is of the highest editorial standard.
* Liaise closely with all BBC News Departments to ensure material is shared and best practice upheld.
* Organised approach to work and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
* Responsible for building morale/team spirit within teams; ensuring the best use of individual skills/abilities.
* Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
Are you the right candidate?
* A clear authoritative broadcasting voice with prior experience of live news broadcasting.
* Strong journalistic skills with a passion for and in-depth knowledge of politics, current affairs and ongoing issues within Scotland as well as UK wide and further afield.
* Good time management skills and an ability to work to tight deadlines.
* The ability to work well within a team as well as working on one’s own initiative.
* Ability to edit audio quickly and effectively and have experience of using broadcast systems.
* Strong grasp of editorial and legal issues and the ability to deal with complex editorial issues in a pressurised environment.
* Clear understanding of our programmes and their public profile.
* Interpersonal skills to deal honestly and productively with staff including presenters.
