Job Title: Portfolio Financial Controller
Reports to: CEO / Finance Director
Location: Head Office / Hybrid Possible
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 p.a. (DOE)
Main Purpose of Job: As a Portfolio Financial Controller, you will oversee the financial health and strategic management of a small portfolio of clients. Your role will involve delivering high-quality financial oversight, ensuring compliance, and providing actionable insights to drive business growth. Working closely with business owners, investors, and key stakeholders, you will help optimise financial performance and efficiency across multiple entities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight and Reporting:
* Prepare and review financial statements, management accounts, and cash flow forecasts for multiple clients.
* Analyse financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing key insights.
* Ensure timely and accurate submission of VAT returns, PAYE, and Corporation Tax filings.
* Oversee financial reporting processes to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow Management:
* Develop and manage financial budgets and forecasts for each client, supporting long-term planning.
* Monitor and manage cash flow across client businesses, ensuring effective financial operations.
* Advise clients on resource allocation and investment decisions to improve financial efficiency.
Compliance & Risk Management:
* Ensure all financial activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.
* Manage tax filings and risk assessment procedures for portfolio clients.
* Identify financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
Strategic Planning & Advisory:
* Provide clients with strategic financial advice to support business growth and profitability.
* Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial reporting and efficiency.
* Look to implement technology to automate and manage different aspects of the finance function.
Stakeholder Liaison & Client Management:
* Act as the key financial contact for business owners, investors, and regulatory bodies.
* Communicate financial performance, risks, and opportunities in a clear and effective manner.
* Work closely with internal teams, including bookkeepers, tax specialists, and CFO, to ensure smooth financial operations.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
* 5+ years of experience in financial control, portfolio management, or senior finance roles.
* Strong analytical and numerical skills to handle complex financial data.
* Excellent communication skills – able to translate financial information for non-financial stakeholders.
* Advanced knowledge of Xero and integrated financial reporting tools.
* Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple client relationships and deadlines.
* A strategic thinker with a proactive and problem-solving mindset.
