Job Profile:
The Nurse/Person-in-Charge assists the Home Manager/Deputy Manager with professional duties and is responsible for care/nursing duties within the Home, whilst ensuring that the Home manager is kept up-to-date at all times.
In the absence of the Home Manager and Deputy Manager, the Nurse/Person-in-Charge is the leader and a working member of the care team and, as such, has overall responsibility for the maintenance of high standards of care and ensure that adequate cover is provided.
SAFE AND EFFECTIVE CARE
Assessment and care planning to meet health and wellbeing needs of Service User’s safely and effectively according to individual needs and preferences using best practice.
* Admit new Service Users and introduce them to other staff and Service Users. Carry out pre-admission assessments, when required.
* Complete and review Service User’s care plans within agreed deadlines.
* Ensure that any equipment found to be faulty is removed from service and reported.
* Consider every Service User as an individual and treat them with the dignity and respect which their age and experience in life deserves.
* Meet the Service Users’ own physical, emotional and spiritual needs in a non-judgemental way and to be respectful of their privacy and personal space.
* Ensure that the Service Users’ property is safeguarded and that records are updated as necessary in accordance with the Home’s procedures.
* Ensure principles of safeguarding (children and adults) are maintained and concerns reported immediately to responsible individuals as per local and company policy.
* Ensure that all treatments are carried out as prescribed and in line with best practice, as detailed in the Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures.
* Comply with company policy and procedure in relation to infection control and prevention.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Take responsibility for care provided and answer for judgements and actions made.
* Adhere to the NMC “The Code” (2015) and ensure requirement of revalidation are met.
* Work within the scope of own professional competence, refer and seek support, as required.
* Adhere to nurse responsibilities and comply with RQIA regulations and outcomes (where appropriate) to meet quality standards and outcomes.
* Observe the NMC legal and professional requirements in relation to accountability and delegation.
* Monitor the quality of work within the designated responsibility and alert others to quality issues.
* Adhere to the legal and professional issues in relation to consent and capacity (adults and children).
* Recognise signs and symptoms which may indicate the presence of serious medical conditions and take appropriate action.
* Keep own knowledge and skills updated, including research, changes in legislation, regulation and practice standards to provide expert information and guidance.
* Obtain feedback and reflect on own performance and level of skills in line with NMC Revalidation requirements to identify strengths and areas for development.
* Ensure a qualified nurse is on the premises, at all times, remaining on duty, if necessary, until cover can be arranged.
* Co-operate with all investigations and audits.
* Work within the company’s GDPR / Information Governance policies in order to maintain security of personal and sensitive data.
COMMUNICATION

* Keep relevant, accurate and complete records consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
* Develop either written or electronic care plans to ensure effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of Service User care.
* Maintain confidentiality at all times in relation to the Data Protection Act 1998.
* Ensure that the Home manager/Deputy Manager or Person-in-Charge is aware of any incidents or accidents to Service Users’, staff, visitors or visiting professionals and to complete the appropriate documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
* Proactively involve Service Users and their relatives/representatives in their Service User Care Plans.
* Understand the importance of correct record management and own personal responsibilities in maintaining this through passwords, storage of documentation and sharing information responsibly (both paper-based and/or electronic).
* Report breaches of records security to the Home Manager or Responsible Person.
LEADERSHIP
Ensure support staff are engaged, motivated, recognised, rewarded, treated fairly and work in a safe environment, compliant within the legal frameworks.
* Co-ordinate and delegate work on each shift taking into consideration appropriate skill mix.
* Support the induction of new staff in line with company policy.
* Demonstrate a leadership style that is effective within a changing healthcare environment.
* Develop and maintain collaborative team working with internal and external professionals and social care services.
* Disseminate learning and information to other team members in order to share good practice and inform others about current and future developments.
* Actively promote the company mission statement at all times.
* Support the staff supervision and appraisal process, as required.
