Primary Purpose of the Role:
The Systems Integration, Test and Support Team (SIT&S) team provide an IVVQ, Installation, Setting-to-work, and development and acceptance trials service to, primarily, the submarine Mine Hunting and Surface Ships sectors.
The SI&T (Operational) role provides the end-user perspective to these activities, in that the products being tested are assessed with respect to being fit for operation.
The candidate will be required to maintain an excellent working relationship with the Customer and End User communities, understanding their needs and communicating this effectively to the relevant business sector in a manner which ensures product and staff development is maintained.
Operational experience is an essential part of the role, as is the ability to apply it effectively in terms of business and staff development.
Principal Relationships:
* With the SIT&S Manager, and the other members of the SIT&S team.
* With the development teams providing the product into SIT&S.
* With the remainder of the Systems Engineering community, to provide ideas for algorithm or product development, to enhance the operability of systems.
* With the business sectors, to provide an operational perspective to projects.
* With the Sales and Marketing community to suggest and promote ideas to business development
* With the Customer and End-User community.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
* Lead the Operational assessment of MMS Sonars throughout all activities in the SIT&S domain from an Operational perspective.
* Apply Operational experience to the product and system design lifecycle. Contribute to System Design Reviews and Working Groups with customer community.
* Adopt an innovative approach wrt solving significant technical issues with an operational perspective. Recommend solutions or alternatives with an authority derived from a recognised close understanding of the end users requirement.
* Support the definition and conduct of Sea Acceptance Trials activities in order demonstrate Compliance with Customer Requirements.
* Identify business development opportunities through close working relationship with the end user community. Anticipate, interpret and communicate effectively, highlighting potential opportunities to the relevant business sector.
* Support Sales and Marketing events and equipment demonstrations with reference to platform experience.
* Support the design and delivery of training packages to Operational Staff for 1st of class Platform equipment in the factory and at Sea, ensuring a smooth Introduction into Service for the equipment.
* Share specialised knowledge and experience with colleagues playing an active role in their development.
Skills:
* Ability to communicate effectively with Customer and End-User community.
* Ability to apply significant Operational experience to product development
* Ability to articulate operational needs into requirements definition
* Computer literate
* Systems Engineering experience, including knowledge of SE tools.
* Experience:
* Significant operational experience of Military Sonar systems
* Experience from Mine Hunting Operational Environment regards the associated Sonars, Command And Control Systems and the roles undertaken.
* Ability to design and deliver training courses to Operators and Command team.
* Knowledge of Sonar architectures
* Understanding of the effect of the maritime environment on Sonar performance.
Qualifications
Degree, or equivalent, in engineering or scientific subject.
