Personal Care Assistants for a young person 24 hr/wk @ £13.09/hr in Morpeth - FTE - £25.5k
To provide support for 24 hours per week broken down into daily calls. To work with a young woman to enable her to access the community and support her independence.
We are currently looking to recruit Support Workers to provide support for a young woman who has various mental health diagnoses. The purpose of your role will be to enable her independence, support her to take part in activities she enjoys, and enable her to live in the way she would like.
Her diagnoses include mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, PTSD, and dissociative episodes. Due to the complexities of this young woman’s mental health, it is preferred that you have experience working within mental health or have personal experience of this. There is a mental health professional (CPN) involved, and you will provide support and guidance. There are also physical diagnoses including sleep apnoea, back pain, and asthma, so as her condition and how she feels fluctuates each day, it will be different. You should be prepared for changes in plans and be flexible in providing support, such as maintaining the home environment.
She is a friendly person with various hobbies and interests. You should be confident and outgoing, happy to have a chat, and enjoy variation in your work. It is essential that you have experience supporting people with mental health diagnoses and have experience working with adults in their own homes. There may be times when you need to contact various professionals for support in crisis situations, which will be discussed during the interview.
You will support with medication for which training will be given, ensure safety at home, and be aware of limitations on a bad day. She is able to do more on good days, and this can fluctuate from day to day. You will support her with going to the shops, meeting friends, and taking part in various activities such as going to the gym and dining out.
Each day will be different depending on what she wants to do, so you should be prepared to be flexible. We would also like the support workers to suggest activities in the community, so you should be willing to proactively find various activities to participate in.
We prefer you to be a car driver with your own transport; however, this isn’t essential as public transport can be used. Expenses will be met by your employer.
Hours – 24 hours per week. Support required is broken down into calls – One hour morning calls Monday-Sunday, Monday (12pm-1pm), Wednesday (12pm-1pm), Friday (approx. 10:30am-3pm), and an evening call of 1.5 hours per day. Total – 24 hours per week.
Times can be flexible and will be discussed further at the interview.
