The post holder will work as a Medical Secretary, based in York, providing a full and comprehensive secretarial service to designated Acute Medical Consultants.
The post holder, where applicable, will provide day-to-day work supervision of Assistant Medical Secretaries, Relief Medical Secretaries and administrative staff within their designated team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder works as part of the administration team supporting Acute Medicine based at York delivering in a busy, time-sensitive environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the preparation of reports for weekly MDT meetings, secretarial support to Consultant Physicians including copy and audio typing, liaison with other staff and clinical teams, advising and supporting administrators and support secretaries.

Qualifications
* GCSE English Language, Grade C or above (or equivalent)
* Evidence of continued professional development
* ECDL
* Qualification or appropriate training in Customer Service
* AMSPAR
Knowledge
* In-depth knowledge of office applications and procedures
* Thorough knowledge of medical terminology
Experience
* Minimum 2 years secretarial/administrative experience
* Experience of working in a customer-focused environment
* Experience of using a variety of IT applications, including Microsoft Office
* Experience of staff supervision
* NHS Experience
Skills
* Ability to communicate with all levels and disciplines of staff, patients, carers and external agencies
* Proficient audio typist with the ability to accurately transcribe complex audio tapes and type complicated medical information whilst subject to frequent interruption
