The role The Revenues Service is looking to recruit a permanent Payments Officer to join our busy Purchase Ledger team and help shape the future of our service. The Payments Team process the Councils payments to suppliers, service providers and individuals. You will also complete reconciliation to orders or contracts identifying and investigating discrepancies, maintaining related records and performing miscellaneous tasks connected with the payment of providers and suppliers. Full training and ongoing coaching/mentoring will be given. We are looking for individuals who are committed to delivering a quality service to the Telford & Wrekin customers. Key Requirements In this team you will need a broad skill set, as you will be dealing with a wide variety of people. You will need to be highly numerate, have an ability to interpret and explain legislation surrounding VAT, and be proficient with using IT systems. If you think you are a good all-rounder then this role could be for you. Skills and Experience We are looking for someone with: An organised approach to work to achieve targets. An ability to deal with customers in a professional, courteous and unbiased manner, to provide a high quality customer service. Excellent communication skills; both oral and written to be able to explain legislation and communicate effectively to customers. The ability to process high volumes of work efficiently and effectively with a high degree of accuracy. Knowledge surrounding the legislation for payments and VAT is desirable. Whilst previous experience is not essential, you will require a sound knowledge of education, excellent communication and customer service skills, along with a pro-active approach to all areas of work with a keen eye for accuracy.
