Job Description
UNIX Engineer - 5 days a week onsite (Barrow-in-Furness)
Key Responsibilities:
* System Administration: Install, configure, and maintain UNIX Servers (eg, Solaris, AIX, HPUX, Linux distributions) across development, testing, and production environments.
* Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement performance enhancements.
* Scripting and Automation: Develop and maintain Shell Scripts or other tools to automate administrative tasks and improve system efficiency.
* Backup and Recovery: Manage system backups, disaster recovery plans, and ensure data integrity across all UNIX systems.
* Security Compliance: Implement and maintain security best practices, including user access controls, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
* System Upgrades and Patching: Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtime.
* Incident and Problem Management: Provide Level 2/3 support, resolve incidents promptly, and document solutions for recurring issues.
* Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including application developers, network engineers, and database administrators, to support projects and operations.
* Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for configurations, procedures, and policies.
Required Skills and Experience:
* Technical Expertise:
o Proficiency in UNIX/Linux operating systems (eg, Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, AIX, Solaris).
o Strong Scripting skills (eg, Bash, Perl, Python).
o Experience with configuration management tools (eg, Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
o Familiarity with virtualization technologies (eg, VMware, KVM) and cloud platforms (eg, AWS, Azure).
o Knowledge of storage solutions and SAN/NAS integration.
* Experience:
o Proven experience as a UNIX/Linux Engineer or Administrator.
o Experience with enterprise-level IT environments and high-availability systems.
