Main Responsibilities
BBC Oxford is looking for an experienced Broadcast Journalist to work two days per week as part of a job-share alongside our existing Political Reporter who works three days a week.
With prominent MPs, a county, a city and many district councils, our part of the South is buzzing with stories of a political nature. It is a multi-media newsroom and you’ll be expected to produce content for radio bulletins and programmes as well as writing for online colleagues and producing pieces for TV.
Are you the right candidate?
As a political reporter you’ll be across all the relevant social media feeds and follow those in the know on X (Twitter). You’ll know all the MPs in your patch and have their numbers in your phone. You’ll have an in-depth knowledge of local and national politics and how it affects our listeners’ lives. A true story-teller, you’ll be able to explain complex stories in a simple and captivating way. You’ll understand the need for digital first and how you can achieve this.
Reporting to the News Editor, you’ll sit as part of a wider South newsgathering operation, liaising with your colleagues in television and online, ensuring they are fully across the stories making headlines in Oxfordshire.
As part of your application please provide an MP3 of no more than 3 minutes of recent on-air work that demonstrates your ability to explain a detailed story in an engaging way. Please send this MP3 to alison.dawes@bbc.co.uk by midnight on 26th Feb 2025.
