Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Provide a comprehensive medical inpatient service.
2. Be responsible for diagnosis and treatment for general medical inpatients.
3. Participate in the 1:11 general medicine on-call rota as agreed with appointee.
4. Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
Person specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent.
* Membership with the Royal College of Physicians or Equivalent.
* GMC registration and license to practice.
Experience
* Experience in acute ward based and outpatient medicine.
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in general medicine.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* At least twelve years post graduate experience with minimum six year at the Specialty Doctor or equivalent level, and in general medicine.
Teaching
* Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, post graduates and junior medical staff.
Audit and Research
* Evidence of participation in clinical audit relevant to specialty.
Motivation
* Commitment to the development of a high-quality, cost-effective service.
Management
* Knowledge and understanding of current NHS issues.
* Ability to develop services.
Personal Skills
* Energy and enthusiasm and the ability to work under pressure.
* An enquiring and critical approach to work.
* Caring attitude to patients.
* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other staff and agencies.
