Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a HV Plant Design Engineer on a 3 month contract based UK wide.
Role Summary
1. Can be Based in Scotland or West Midlands but must do 2-3 days in office.
2. Supporting the Substations Section Manager in growing and enhancing the Substations Section engineering capability in the UK business; and providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers within the engineering team, particularly those in the Substations Section.
3. Be a lead technical role on substation design project deliverables, ranging from 11kV up to 400kV (with a particular emphasis on 132kV voltages and above), including undertaking the role of Lead Project Engineer on project teams, as required and when appropriate.
4. Produce detailed electricity substation design packages, compliant with required client and national technical standards (ENA/BS/IEC/IEEE, etc.).
5. Earthing studies and substation earth system design.
6. Execute complex assignments requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods.
7. Undertake consultancy role on FEED stage projects, including production of technical reports and presentations.
8. Maintain compliance with CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation and electrical system design.
9. Undertake technical quality assurance reviews and provide design approval/sign-off, as required, on substation-physical-related designs and deliverables.
10. Work closely with other sections of the UK T&D Engineering Team, particularly the Protection & Control Section and Civil/Structural Section, to enable effective collaboration on multi-disciplinary projects and facilitate an optimal engineering function in the UK business.
11. Maintain technical compliance to applicable client design management standards, processes, and procedures on all work delivered.
12. Assist with developing and implementing policies, processes, procedures, standards, and technical guidance, as required, to continually improve the engineering capability within the Substations Section.
13. Plan and lead client meetings (or meeting sections) relating to substation engineering, as required.
14. Act as Principal Designer representative, as defined by UK Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, where required.
15. Support the preparation of project proposals and tender presentations.
16. Drive 'Safety by Design' approach on all projects, at all times.
17. Support nurturing of safety and technical excellence culture through an emphasis on staff competence, diligence, and responsible attitude.
18. Understanding wider industry best practices and client technical standards/procedures for construction, operations & maintenance, and decommissioning, in order to drive safety, constructability, and operability throughout whole asset lifecycles.
19. Support nurturing of world-class customer service culture, to drive client success.
20. Provide support for continued professional development of less experienced engineers in the team, including technical guidance.
21. Actively support marketing and business development activities, building relationships with client technical contacts to aid in generating new business, and elevation of the brand.
22. Identifying new skills and competencies required within the team to meet business needs and actively supporting the development and recruitment of talent, including candidate interviewing.
23. Participate in relevant professional bodies and industry groups. Maintain Continued Professional Development (CPD).
24. Support or lead portions of section meetings.
25. Interpret and support with establishing policies, procedures, and strategic goals of the organisation.
26. Assist with the advancement and development of department tools and workflows to increase the efficiency of designs, specification development, and project execution.
27. Undertake other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be asked of this position by management.
Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree in an electrical-based (or closely related) engineering discipline, from an accredited institution.
2. Minimum of 3 years of substation engineering design experience in the electricity transmission & distribution sector.
3. Membership in a relevant professional Engineering Institution (e.g. IET, CIGRE, IEC, IEEE, etc.).
