Our Client, a premium food manufacturer, has an opportunity for an experienced Operations Manager to join their Senior Management team to provide leadership, motivate & inspire, as well as help drive their business forwards.
This role will report into the Managing Director.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the Production Manager, Planning Manager, and Technical Manager.
* Ensure the safety & quality of all products and services.
* Provide a full service to all customers.
* Manage the operational development of the production units.
* Manage procurement & stock control.
* Ensure operations are performed within agreed financial targets.
* Ensure compliance with all standards required by law and customers.
* Lead health & safety in the bakeries.
* Maintain & improve product attributes and production efficiencies.
Manage and be financially accountable for all Cost of Sales items including:
* Purchasing of raw materials (procurement).
* Production wages – staff numbers & overtime.
* Packaging (procurement & purchase).
* Distribution costs.
* Technical costs.
* Factory equipment purchase & maintenance.
Management Responsibilities
Factory operation – staff management:
* Sourcing, recruitment, and training of staff for operations.
* Management of staff issues & facilities.
* Manage wage budget through staff numbers & overtime.
* Drive manufacturing operations.
* Manage budget of spend on equipment & maintenance.
* Transport supply logistics.
* Establish relationships with supply chain contacts at customers.
* Ensure compliance with customer specifications.
* Manage customer visits and bakery tours.
* Overall sourcing of ingredients & packaging.
* Procurement and price negotiation with suppliers.
* Planning & logistics of supply – dealing with unforeseen issues.
* Support technical compliance of raw materials & suppliers.
Operational Compliance
* Technical compliance to audit standards (BRC or equivalent).
* Health & safety compliance – working with an external provider.
* Social responsibility compliance.
* Production planning to meet customer orders.
* KPI review & corrective action plan.
* Assist in sourcing suitable suppliers for new product concepts.
* Develop processes of manufacture with the factory team.
* Volume versus capacity management.
Management Review
* Prepare & present monthly KPIs to the Board.
* Develop & manage communication from operations with full KPI reporting and analysis vs targets.
* Value engineering – regularly review all suppliers, products, and processes to ensure ‘best value at least cost’.
