Fixed term until 31st March 2027 About this opportunity: The Solway Coast National Landscape (formerly known as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) team is recruiting an experienced and enthusiastic member of staff to assist with the development and delivery of projects contributing to the conservation of the landscape. As the successful candidate, much of your work will be focused on public engagement and communications, working with a wide range of people to encourage them to develop their understanding and enjoyment of the landscape and their role in looking after it. Your role will deliver projects and work programmes right across the designated area, involving harder to reach communities and working to provide people with the opportunities to improve their health and wellbeing and spend time outdoors. Key responsibilities: The post will involve delivering or helping to deliver projects; for example, running a volunteer work programme with local businesses, carrying out practical work to improve habitat for a protected species, running a communications campaign, supporting tourism businesses on the Solway or delivering events. You will also be expected to help to secure funding for the delivery of projects as well as assist with the preparation and monitoring of the National Landscape 5-year Management Plan. The post is based in the Solway Coast National Landscape offices in Silloth but you will work on a range of sites within the designated area and beyond as well as from home where appropriate. Who we’re looking for: You will have good experience and knowledge of the designated landscapes of Cumbria and the north of England, nature conservation, cultural heritage and public engagement. You will have a degree or equivalent and at least two years’ work experience in an environmental or cultural landscape related field. You will be an excellent communicator with a positive attitude, enthusiastic about the Solway and what it can offer, with experience in running events and producing communication and interpretation materials with a focus on access and inclusivity for all.
