In this role, you will work within the Estates team, managing a small team of staff to deliver reserve management around the Weald and Canterbury.
You’ll be involved in:
1. Overseeing the day to day delivery of conservation activities on the reserves in Weald and Blean areas.
2. Managing the process of developing and producing reserve management plans and accompanying work programmes.
3. Trialling new approaches to delivery to maximise biodiversity benefit while minimising cost, such as re-wilding or other lower intensity management practices.
4. Developing and managing the teams under your area of responsibility.
5. Mentoring and advising your team and supporting their professional development where practicable.
6. Developing and managing the Blean and Weald reserve budgets.
7. Managing Countryside Stewardship work programmes, bids and claims for Blean and Weald areas and assisting with other areas as may be required.
8. Ensuring all reserve operations are undertaken in accordance with agri-environment schemes and the requirements of cross compliance.
9. Ensuring health and safety processes are adhered to on reserves in Weald and Blean area.
10. Fostering positive working relationships across the organisation and externally to further reserves delivery.
What we need you to bring:
1. At least 5 years’ experience of working in a nature reserve, wildlife conservation or land management context.
2. Experience of developing and delivering nature reserve work programmes.
3. Management and supervision of staff and volunteers.
4. Experience of day-to-day management of budgets.
5. Sound understanding and technical knowledge of wildlife conservation and reserve management techniques and methods as they apply to Kent’s wildlife habitats.
6. Good understanding of agri-environment schemes and cross compliance and the associated requirements.
7. Effective development of working relationships with different teams across different functions within an organisation.
8. Self-motivation with a proven ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.
