This is a Permanent position and Coleman James Ltd are acting as an Employment Agency About the Role: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Geotechnical Engineer to support ports maintenance dredging and manage Marine Management Organisation (MMO) licensing. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant dredging operations while providing geotechnical expertise to support dredge engineering activities. Key Responsibilities: Ports Maintenance Dredging Management: Oversee geotechnical aspects of maintenance dredging operations to ensure navigational depths are maintained. Assess sediment characteristics, stability, and disposal suitability. Support planning and execution of dredging campaigns, including surveys and sediment sampling. Provide technical input on dredging methodologies, sediment management, and environmental impacts. Marine Management Organisation (MMO) Licensing & Compliance: Manage and maintain compliance with MMO licensing requirements for dredging and disposal activities. Prepare and submit MMO applications, ensuring alignment with environmental and regulatory frameworks. Liaise with regulators, stakeholders, and environmental agencies to ensure adherence to permit conditions. Monitor and report on environmental impacts, mitigation measures, and licence obligations. Dredge Engineering Support: Provide geotechnical assessments for dredging equipment selection and operational feasibility. Conduct risk assessments related to soil stability, settlement, and dredging-induced impacts. Analyse geotechnical data to inform dredging strategies and project planning. Work with contractors and port authorities to optimise dredging efficiency and sustainability. Required Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field. Experience in geotechnical analysis, dredging operations, and marine infrastructure projects. Preferable knowledge of MMO licensing, sediment management, and regulatory compliance. Familiarity with hydrographic surveys, geotechnical testing, and environmental impact assessments. Strong understanding of dredging techniques, material disposal, and sediment transport processes. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement, regulatory discussions, and reporting. Desirable Skills: Experience working with GIS, dredging models, and marine geotechnical software. Knowledge of marine sediment contamination, water quality monitoring, and mitigation strategies. Understanding of climate resilience, coastal processes, and port sustainability initiatives
