Consultant in Emergency Medicine
Job overview
We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and clinically focused person for the Consultant in Emergency Medicine role. The successful applicant will join a dynamic team of 28 Consultants in an Emergency Department (ED) that sees more than 100,000 patients annually and is the most extensive ED and only Major Trauma Centre (MTC) in Devon and Cornwall.
We are a unique Trust having close links with the British Antarctic Survey Medical Unit, the hyperbaric medical emergency service at DDRC Healthcare, and the Defence Medical Services. In addition, we have close links with the local medical school, two Air Ambulance services and the local coastguard. Several of our staff also volunteer for the local RLNI services and BASICS. University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHPT) services an overall population of approximately 1.67 million for tertiary and quaternity services, providing a comprehensive 24-hour speciality cover, including cardiology with 24-hour PCI cover, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery.
UHPT has confirmed significant, exciting future investments with a £160 million investment for a new state-of-the-art ED and £16 million for an onsite Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). These developments will include a large specific paediatric emergency department, a sizeable 11-bed resus and an entire ambulatory/SDEC floor. The size of these investments creates the opportunity to work in an expanding service during a uniquely exciting time.
